5 Myths of Online Training
Online fitness coaching is relatively new. Many folks aren't quite sure how it works. And quite a few have misconceptions about it.
Here are 5 "myths" about online personal training or fitness coaching:
You do zoom workouts with the coach/instructor leading the session.
Nah, that is known as "virtual training." We don't do that.
It undermines the truly valuable aspect of online coaching in which you can train anywhere, at anytime, completely on your terms.
It's also a "one-size-fits-most" approach, meaning that the workout is not build specifically for you and your goals.
2. There's no accountability.
Decidedly false. Too many believe that there's more inherent accountability support with in-person 1:1 training.
Nope. Sure, you have the trainer's attention when you're with them and yes, you have a scheduled appointment that you've paid good money to show up for.
However, in 12 years of coaching people in-person 1:1, more than half of the people I've coached over the years would miss at least 20-25% of their scheduled sessions due to conflicts and busyness.
And in most training relationships, when you are out of sight, you are out of mind. That trainer seldom keeps track of what you're doing when you're not with them.
With our online cohort, we check in on every member's progress, every day.
3. We can't coach proper form because we're not physically with you.
Again, false. Every exercise that we prescribe has a thorough instructional video embedded directly into the workout so you can see how each exercise is meant to be done, properly.
And, we regularly do video form checks in which our members send us video of their form and we critique and correct it with short video replies.
We also host Group Workshop Calls twice a month during which we demo proper form and movement patterns.
4. It's expensive.
Certainly not compared with the hourly rate of any experienced and expert coach! Any trainer worth their salt would be charging at least $100 per session. In some cities, it's double that.
And, for the most part, you are only paying for their time - the 2-3 hours per week that you're with them.
Online coaching is packed with sooooo much more value, like a personalized sustainable nutrition plan and habits or mindset coaching, at a fraction of that cost.
5. There's no sense of community like you experience from group training.
While that's true to some extent, we work hard to build a feeling of community within our cohort. Most of our members are West Pointers and share that common experience.
We host bi-weekly Group Workshop calls which are sometimes like a mini-reunion.
And we organize adventure and challenge trips to bring our members together in person throughout the year.
Yeah, the energy that you would experience at one of our small group sessions at MidStrong is amazing. And this isn't quite that.
But, you're not out there alone in the wilderness. We're with you every step of the journey.
