Failure was certain. Till Sam got his mind right.
Sam joined up back in September. It took him about a month to get into a rhythm. His first weeks were choppy. Filled with excuses.
He used weak@ss language like, "I'm gonna try to squeeze it in tomorrow, Paul."
He paid a lot of money to join our program. This ain't Planet Fitness. Sam had a habit of throwing money at his problems but never fully going all in.
His failure to gain traction was his mindset. That, and he always left himself an escape hatch so he could justify why he didn't follow through. Again.
Those manifested through his lame language... "I'm gonna try to find the time to squeeze it in tomorrow."
Horrible. The weakest sentence ever uttered. Not worthy of him.
I challenged his thinking and language. Words make worlds.
"I'm gonna try..."
No, Sam. As Yoda says, "Do or do not. There is no try."
"find the time..."
Nope. Sorry, Sam, we can't "find" time. It's not hiding in a closet.
We can only "take" time. We must take it from competing priorities, things that are important.
Which by necessity forces a choice.
Which is what makes it a PRIORITY.
"squeeze it in..."
What???
When our fitness truly becomes a PRIORITY, we don't "squeeze" it into our day.
"Squeezing" implies that we are cramming it in between our true priorities.
With those words it's clear that fitness is NOT a priority.
"Tomorrow."
There's no time like the present, Sam.
There is no "tomorrow."
We only have today.
Which is why we call it the "present."
It's a gift.
Sam kept using lame@ass language until he got his mind right.
Mindset matters.
Now Sam tells me, "Paul, I blocked four 60-minute sessions this week at 0630. I will take and preserve that time to crush my workouts."
Go Sam!!
